The Opportunity

We are seeking ambitious, intellectually curious and high-performing lawyers to join our growing team as Associates.

The successful candidates will work closely with Partners and Senior Associates on a broad range of complex advisory, transactional and dispute resolution matters while progressively assuming greater responsibility for managing matters and client relationships.

Depending on experience, successful candidates will be appointed as:

• Associate III
• Associate II
• Associate I

The successful candidate will report to the relevant Partner or Senior Associate.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Assist in advising clients on complex legal, regulatory and commercial matters across the Firm’s practice areas.
• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, agreements, pleadings, opinions and correspondence.
• Conduct legal research and prepare high-quality legal memoranda and opinions.
• Participate in transactions, projects, investigations, due diligence exercises, arbitrations and litigation matters.
• Prepare regulatory applications, corporate filings and other documentation required by government authorities and regulatory bodies.
• Attend meetings, negotiations, hearings, mediations and client conferences.
• Support Partners and Senior Associates in managing client engagements.
• Maintain accurate matter records and contribute to efficient matter management.
• Contribute to the preparation of client alerts, publications, legal updates and thought leadership initiatives.
• Participate actively in the Firm’s knowledge management programme by developing precedents, checklists and internal practice materials.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
• Demonstrate increasing responsibility in managing workstreams and supervising trainees and junior lawyers, where appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

• LL.B degree from a recognised university. An LL.M or other postgraduate qualification will be an added advantage.
• Relevant post-admission experience appropriate to the level of appointment:
  • Associate III: approximately 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate II: approximately 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Associate I: approximately 6 years of relevant experience.
• Demonstrated experience in legal drafting, legal research and client advisory work.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong organisational and project management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal technology platforms.

Experience working with international clients or on cross-border matters will be an advantage.

Location

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Occasional travel within Ethiopia and internationally may be required depending on client engagements.
